You can say so much with shoes. A flash of color, a hit of texture—such small flourishes give me a completely different stride.
I’m a born and raised New Yorker and the daughter of Jamaican immigrants. Those qualities have always influenced my aesthetic, and they now guide NAYLA’s vivid color palette. I love that on any given day walking down the street I see every color, culture, and type of person wearing every color and type of thing you can and can’t possibly imagine. I love the sun and the way it burnishes my skin a deeper, darker, more wonderfully complex brown in summer. I love the faded shades of blue, hibiscus, and teal I spot everywhere when I visit Negril. I love that brilliant color is a mark of sophistication over there, and that wearing it or being around it wherever I am in the world always makes me feel keenly alive.
Fish leather is this thing of beauty salvaged from the sea. I love running my fingers along its softly scaled ridges. Shoutout to NAYLA founder Nayla Atallah Cross for dreaming up such a rare, special, sustainable concept.
My hope, if you decide on a pair of NAYLAS, is that they make you feel vibrant. That color does something to your mood when you wear it on your feet. That you find your shoes comfy enough to dash around in, and chic enough to be your statement piece. And that your NAYLAS make your getup—and this one incredible life—feel a little more fun.
Love,
Mega
